City Stor(i)es: Munich
Let us take you across the world and into our international stores. Each of our stores is a unique home to our brand with its own story, neighbourhood, and distinct style – in the same way that the style of each city differs. After stopping by stores in Copenhagen and London, our next destination was Sendlinger Strasse in Munich where we met Sonja Nitzschke who has since become our Store Manager. Sendlinger Strasse is arguably one of the most quiet central shopping streets in Munich. Less crowded than Kaufingerstrasse despite being just a stone's throw away, it has become a haven for smaller, premium shops since it turned into a pedestrian only zone – including Munich's first and only Samsøe Samsøe store. One of the things that are special about this store only becomes visible once you have made your way in and towards the back of the space: four huge windows out into a small back garden that is a peaceful space within the busy city.

"We have a lot of recurring customers that browse the website and then come into the store, asking for pieces they saw online. We often already know what exactly they enjoy and what their taste or favourite style is. But they also know us and are always happy to see us!"
"I love coming into the store – every day is just completely different and exciting. You never know which people will come that day and what stories they will tell." Sonja describes when asked about her standard day in the store. Spoiler: a standard day doesn't exist.
Her role at Samsøe Samsøe is her first experience in the world of Retail. Sonja originally studied Fashion Design and was looking for a brand to work – perfect timing then that she already knew and loved Samsøe Samsøe and the store had just opened.

Our customers are not only greeted by Sonja and her team members, though, but also by the minimalist design of the store, including the polished silver cash register that they often don't even notice at the first glance. Two of the most asked about design details. "People tend to comment on the benches we have which are simple yet special. And we often get asked about the tiles by the changing rooms upstairs – especially interior design architects are interested in them."

The Sendlinger Strasse is not only home to other premium stores, though. In fact, what Sonja treasures the most about the shop's location are the Hofstatt and the Asamhöfe, two courtyards that offer a recluse from the busy street life that is happening just a few meters away. Either in one of the restaurants here or at her favourite bakery, Julius Brandtner, is where she usually grabs lunch with her team, whom she is very close with.
